[Saba Sports News] Nikola Jokic, the Denver Nuggets’ star who is less famed for his dunks, surprised fans with a dunk around Victor Wembanyama, following it up with a humorous remark aimed at the rookie sensation. In the Nuggets’ 110-105 win over the Spurs, both Jokic and Wembanyama showed off their skills, with Jokic scoring a leading 42 points, along with 16 rebounds and 6 assists. Wembanyama, not far behind, tallied 23 points, 15 rebounds, 8 assists, and an impressive 9 blocks.
A standout moment came early in the game when, after Wembanyama blocked Jokic following a layup, Jokic managed to dunk near him in a lively exchange. When asked during the postgame about any words he had for Wembanyama after the dunk, Jokic humorously remarked he had playfully threatened Wembanyama for blocking his shots, although Wembanyama continued to block several more throughout the game.
“I told him if he blocked one more shot I’m gonna … something,” Jokic said. “But he blocked like four after that, so I didn’t do anything about it.”
Jokic’s comments were a lighthearted nod to Wembanyama’s exceptional defensive abilities, highlighted by his remarkable wingspan. Jokic’s acknowledgment hints at the challenges he faced in maneuvering around Wembanyama’s defense. Given Wembanyama’s defensive prowess, it’s likely he’ll be a strong contender for Defensive Player of the Year awards in the future, a notion Jokic seemed to support with his postgame banter.
