[Saba Sports News] British Members of Parliament (MPs) have urged the
Premier League to decrease the amount of gambling advertisements, according to
reports from British media. The MPs made their recommendations based on survey
data revealing that nearly 7,000 gambling ads were shown during six Premier
League matches. The UK’s Culture, Media, and Sport Committee released a report
on gambling regulation, aiming to reduce gambling and minimize children’s
exposure to gambling advertising. A recent study found that positive gambling
brands accounted for 7% of all gambling brands among the 10 games analyzed in
the survey. The committee also highlighted that while the number of gambling
companies sponsoring Premier League players’ shirts had decreased, the frequency
of gambling ads during matches had not diminished. While it is important to
safeguard the freedom of most individuals to engage in responsible recreational
activities, more measures should be implemented to protect children and
individuals with a history of gambling problems.
