Sports News] According to recent reports from British media, the schedule for
the 2025 Club World Cup has been revealed, with 32 teams set to compete from
June 15 to July 13. However, this has raised concerns about the increased
workload placed on players. It is anticipated that some players may have to
participate in over 80 games in a single season, which exceeds the current
upper limit by 10%. Ahead of a FIFA Council meeting, FIFPRO, the global players
union, has expressed the need for players to have a mandatory 28-day
off-season. If this request is approved, it will pose challenges to the Premier
League schedule. For instance, teams that reach the Club World Cup final will
have approximately 28 days before the start of the new domestic season, during
which preseason training is usually conducted. Additionally, teams are also
expected to participate in the 2025 Community Shield, which takes place one
week before the Premier League begins. Given the already congested schedule,
FIFA’s decision could potentially lead to conflicts, increased injury risks for
players, and further imbalances in competitiveness. It is hoped that FIFA will
strive to create a harmonious environment for both local and international
events, considering the overall welfare of the football industry.
