[Saba Sports News] The Premier League is set to introduce trial regulations for squad cost rules (SCR) and top-down anchoring rules (TBA) in the upcoming season. These rules are part of a non-binding league financial system. While the existing profitability and sustainability rules (PSR) will remain unchanged, clubs will experiment with SCR and TBA to evaluate their effectiveness. This trial period will allow the Premier League and its clubs to assess the system’s operation, including its compatibility with UEFA’s new financial regulations, and gather input from all stakeholders. The SCR will dictate a club’s on-field spending based on a certain percentage (85%) of the club’s net profit/loss from football revenue and player sales. TBA is a league-anchored rule concept that considers a club’s revenue and expenditure by multiplying the center distribution of the club’s minimum predicted cost for the season. The objective of this system is to enhance and sustain clubs’ financial stability, promote competitive balance in the Premier League, facilitate collaboration with other leagues, and support clubs’ competitiveness in UEFA club competitions. It aims to provide certainty and clarity to fans and stakeholders.
