[Saba Sports News] The Boston Celtics found a fitting way to honor the late Bill Walton before Game 1 of the 2024 NBA Finals against the Dallas Mavericks.
On Thursday, the Celtics took the floor at TD Garden wearing shirts with Walton’s name boldly printed on the chest in a tie-dye design, reflecting Walton’s signature style and love for the Grateful Dead. Walton, who played for the Celtics for two seasons and was a key member of their 1985-86 championship team, passed away last month after a long battle with prostate cancer.
Celtics fans in attendance received commemorative tie-dye Walton pins, and a tribute video for Walton was played on the arena jumbotron before tipoff. Walton was celebrated for his contributions to the NBA, including leading the Portland Trail Blazers to their first title in the 1976-77 season and winning Sixth Man of the Year during his time with the Celtics.
