[Saba Sports News] Chris Paul recently addressed a report about his unpopularity among NBA referees during an interview on The Pat McAfee Show. Paul remarked that many referees probably share the sentiments of the former NBA referee quoted in the article. He joked that the former referee was likely friends with Scott Foster and perhaps upset about not being included in the latest State Farm commercial.
“I’m going to tell you, there’s probably a lot more that feel like that… That ref, I had to look him up when he said (that). What was his name? He was in the league for a long time and you can probably guess who one of his homeboys is. But it was funny, he was probably mad that I didn’t put him in the last State Farm commercial.”
Paul was referring to a recent article about Scott Foster and his feud with CP3, in which former NBA referee Bill Spooner criticized Paul for his cultivated media personality, revealing his behavior behind the scenes.
“I get asked all the time: ‘Who are some of the tough guys, some of the bad guys?’ And when I tell them that Chris Paul, in my 32 years in the league, was one of the biggest a**holes I ever dealt with, they say, ‘Not Rasheed Wallace … or da-da-da?’ Nope. Nothing like (Paul). And they are like, ‘Oh, he seems like such a nice guy.’ And I say, ‘Yeah, he’s a great image cultivator.’”
