[Saba Sports News] Jimmy Butler attended the latest LA Sparks game on Saturday, with his Heat out of the title race. He had the opportunity to watch one of the WNBA’s rising stars, No. 22 Cameron Brink, and made a cryptic comment that stirred social media.
“Being in Los Angeles as much as possible because I realize the Sparks are great and the LA team is really good. For some reason, the No. 22 just looks good in the Purple and Gold,” Butler said, referring to the 22-year-old Brink, who was drafted second overall in the 2024 Draft. Butler is a fan, possibly influenced by an old viral video where Brink expressed her admiration for him.
Brink is off to a solid start in her WNBA career, averaging 8.2 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game. Her performance caught Butler’s attention, who attended the game wearing her No. 22 jersey—the same number he wears in the NBA. Butler had fun teasing Lakers fans, highlighting the jersey and its significance.
“Y’all see this jersey I’m wearing right now. 22 purple and gold says Brink, not Butler, unfortunately, LA fans,” Butler joked.
The Lakers, in need of a third star, have been searching for a key player since the Russell Westbrook situation. Butler, averaging 20.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game on 49.9% shooting for the Heat, would be an ideal fit alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis. His work ethic and defensive skills could enhance the Lakers’ roster.
Despite having two years left on his contract, including a $52 million player option for 2025-26, Butler’s fondness for Los Angeles and the Sparks raises speculation about a future move. The Lakers just need to create an enticing package to bring him to the negotiation table with the Heat.
