[Saba Sports] Dan Hurley recently shared his wife’s emotional reaction to being offered the Lakers’ head coach position on the ‘Dan Le Batard Show’. Initially, she was very upset, questioning why he would consider uprooting their lives when they were happy in Connecticut.
“She was crying in the beginning. The first couple of days, she got wildly angry and emotional. Not like hitting me… but she was like, ‘I can’t believe you’re bringing this up, our life is perfect. Now you’re bringing this sh*t,’” Hurley explained.
However, she warmed up to the idea after meeting with Lakers’ executives Rob Pelinka and Jeanie Buss in Los Angeles. Despite enjoying the trip, they decided against the move once they returned to Connecticut.
Hurley ultimately rejected the Lakers’ 6-year, $70 million contract to remain with UConn and pursue an NCAA championship three-peat. He admitted that while a better offer might have swayed him, staying at UConn was never about the money. Hurley also revealed that LeBron James was in touch with him during the decision process, and he spoke positively about their interactions.
For now, Hurley remains focused on collegiate basketball, while the Lakers continue their search for a new head coach, including considering JJ Redick for the role.
