[Saba Sports News] Many people believe that racing is primarily about the car’s speed, with drivers not requiring physical strength. However, becoming an F1 driver requires more effort than being a professional athlete. Recently, media summarized six essential requirements for F1 drivers. First, a clear mind is crucial as any distraction can result in a crash. Second, a thick neck is needed to support the head and helmet against the centripetal force experienced during high-speed turns. Third, strong arms are required to turn the steering wheel, which demands significant force, maintained for nearly two hours. Fourth, a perfect body fat percentage is necessary, as reducing weight can improve lap speed. Fifth, a strong heart is essential since drivers’ heart rates are often between 160-185 during a race. Finally, amazing endurance is required to cope with the high oxygen consumption and temperatures exceeding 50°C inside the car. While success in F1 is often measured by wins and championships, these physical and mental attributes are vital.
