(sabasports report) In the first group round of Euro 2024, Romania faced Ukraine. Nicolae Stanciu scored his European Championship debut goal from long range to give Romania a 1-0 victory.
Romania have an outstanding defence, conceding just five goals in 10 games in European qualifying, thanks to brilliant defenders such as Radu Drăgușin. The real problem for Romania, though, is a lack of creative midfielders to provide enough support for the strikers.
In addition, the Romanian players generally lack experience in the competition, which makes the captain Stanciu all the more important. Of the Romanian team, only Stanciu and Denis Alibec have previous experience at the European Championship. At Euro 2016, Stanciu started against France and Albania and set up an assist against France.
Thanks to Stanciu’s key goal and the team’s solid defense, Romania successfully won the first round of the game and laid a good foundation for the rest of the competition.
