[Saba Sports News] JJ Redick might be in for a summer surprise.
Vincent Goodwill of Yahoo! Sports reported that the former NBA guard could be a candidate for the Detroit Pistons’ head coaching job. The Pistons created a vacancy by firing coach Monty Williams earlier on Wednesday.
Goodwill highlights Redick’s history with new Pistons lead executive Trajan Langdon, as both attended Duke University and were with the New Orleans Pelicans from 2019-21. Additionally, Pistons vice chairman Arn Tellem is known to be a fan of Redick.
While Redick is widely expected to become the next coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, the newly available Pistons job offers a less scrutinizing and lower-expectation environment for a first-time head coach like Redick. The Pistons’ owner, Tom Gores, has shown willingness to spend, which might allow Redick to command a more lucrative offer than he could with the Lakers.
If Redick takes the Pistons job, it might not be the worst outcome for the Lakers, potentially opening the door for another interesting coaching move.
