[Saba Sports News] Chris Paul’s debut season with the Golden State Warriors didn’t pan out as expected, yet he may still hold significant trade value.
According to Anthony Slater of The Athletic, the Warriors are contemplating trading Paul, leveraging his non-guaranteed $30 million contract for the upcoming season as a strategic asset.
The team is exploring roster enhancements and has discussed with Paul the possibility of extending his June 28 contract guarantee deadline into July if necessary, to increase flexibility.
Currently, none of Paul’s $30 million for next season is guaranteed, making him a viable trade prospect. Potential trade partners could choose to either release Paul after acquiring him, or retain his services for veteran depth, possibly renegotiating his contract to a lower value.
Last season, the 39-year-old, 12-time All-Star averaged 9.2 points and 6.8 assists per game in primarily a reserve role, indicating his starting days may be over. Nevertheless, Paul has attracted interest from several teams in the West alone, and his temporarily advantageous contract conditions could facilitate a trade.
