[Saba Sports News] In the recently concluded group stage of the European Championship in Germany, Romania drew 1-1 with Slovakia, securing their qualification as the group leaders. This achievement marked a new record for them, as they reached the knockout rounds of the European Championship after 24 years. Following their success, Romanian President Klaus Iohannis took to social media to congratulate the national team on their victory. He wrote, “Congratulations to the national team for advancing to the top 16 of the European Championship! Dear tricolor, you have once again brought joy to the Romanians. We stand with you! Come on, Romania!” It is worth noting that this is only the second time in Romania’s history that they have qualified for the European Championship. Prior to the tournament, Romania had won only 1 out of 16 European Championship games, with a winning rate of 6%. In the Round of 16, Romania will face the Netherlands. The editor believes that Romania has the potential to be a dark horse in the competition, considering their impressive performance in the group stage. In their opening match of the 2024 European Championship, Romania defeated Ukraine 3-0, achieving the largest margin of victory in the history of the Romanian team in major competitions (European Championship and World Cup).
