[Saba Sports News] The Memphis Grizzlies selected Zach Edey with the No. 9 overall pick in the NBA Draft on Wednesday, surprising many.
Edey’s draft position was uncertain due to mixed opinions on his potential. Standing at 7-foot-4, Edey was the National Player of the Year for two consecutive years and dominated in the NCAA Tournament, proving he can carry a team.
However, questions remain about his ability to adapt to the NBA’s faster pace. The Grizzlies are confident he will complement Jaren Jackson Jr. and Ja Morant, selecting him in the top 10, earlier than many anticipated. With a need at center, the Grizzlies view Edey as a strong replacement for Steven Adams, who was traded to the Rockets this offseason.
Edey and Jackson together should provide strong rim protection for the Grizzlies.
