[Saba Sports News] Bronny James will be following the footsteps of Los Angeles Lakers legend Marcelo Huertas.
The Lakers announced on Friday via social media that Bronny will wear the No. 9 jersey for the upcoming season. Notably, his jersey will display “James Jr.,” reflecting his given name as LeBron James Jr. This marks a change for the 19-year-old rookie, who wore No. 0 during his high school years at Sierra Canyon and No. 6 during his collegiate season at USC last year. No. 6 was previously worn by his father LeBron James with the Lakers before he switched to No. 23 in 2019, and No. 0 is currently worn by Lakers guard Jalen Hood-Schifino.
As a result, Bronny has opted for the No. 9, a number previously worn by 15 other Lakers players, including recent figures like Huertas, Luol Deng, Rajon Rondo, Wesley Matthews, Kent Bazemore, and Sterling Brown. Going further back, it was also worn by an ex-Lakers All-Star in the 1990s, who has given Bronny his approval for wearing the No. 9 jersey.
