[Saba Sports News] The Los Angeles Clippers quickly moved to sign a new forward following Paul George’s exit.
On Sunday, the Clippers announced that George would not be returning after he declined his $48.7 million player option, becoming a free agent.
Hours later, the Clippers reportedly signed free agent forward Derrick Jones Jr. to a three-year, $30 million contract, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic. Jones played a key role for the Dallas Mavericks in their recent NBA Finals run, starting all 22 postseason games and averaging 9.1 points and 3.5 rebounds while providing excellent perimeter defense.
In his lone season with the Mavericks, Jones averaged a career-best 8.6 points in the regular season and improved his outside shooting. The Clippers will be Jones’ sixth NBA team as he enters his ninth season in the league.
