[Saba Sports News] After a quiet free agency, the Los Angeles Lakers might have a new strategy.
Sean Deveney of Heavy Sports reported that the Lakers are eyeing Orlando Magic center Wendell Carter Jr. as a possible trade target. The Lakers are currently “monitoring” Carter on the trade market.
Carter, 25, was the No. 7 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. Last season, he hit a career-high 37.4 percent of his three-pointers and averaged 11.0 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. While not known for his defense, Carter’s offensive skills as a stretch 5 could complement LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
With two years and less than $23 million remaining on his contract, Carter is an attractive trade option. Orlando’s depth at center, with Goga Bitadze, Jonathan Isaac, and Moe Wagner, makes Carter expendable.
The Lakers, seeking a stretch 5, were recently linked to another potential trade target. If Carter is their choice, they’ll need to outbid another Western Conference playoff contender.
