[Saba Sports News] In a conversation with ESPN’s Jamal Collier, a Bulls member criticized Zach LaVine amid internal chaos. The source accused LaVine of selfish behavior, suggesting he needs to change his approach for the team’s sake.
“He’s never won, he’s done it his way the whole way and never won,” the source said. “If he’s interested in winning, he’ll do what’s asked of him. And if he’s motivated to not be here, one way is to come, be compliant and be who he is.”
Since the departure of Jimmy Butler, the Bulls have struggled despite acquiring LaVine, DeMar DeRozan, and Lonzo Ball. LaVine, 29, has been a 2x All-Star for the franchise, averaging 24.2 points per game over seven seasons. However, his poor defense, streaky shooting, and decision-making have hindered the team.
Last season, LaVine requested a trade but was benched for the remainder of the games. The Bulls have yet to find a team willing to take on his three-year, $136 million contract.
As LaVine likely stays with the Bulls this October, he faces a choice: force a trade, risking his reputation and value, or commit to playing out his contract. With LaVine, Vucevic, and Lonzo Ball, the Bulls could still contend for a play-in spot next season.
Without DeRozan, challenging top teams like the Celtics, Bucks, and Knicks seems unlikely. To increase his trade value, LaVine must play like a star, a feat he has yet to accomplish consistently. For now, his fate lies in how he decides to move forward after last season’s stalemate with the Bulls.
