[Saba Sports News] Kevin Durant set an Olympic record during Team USA’s win over Brazil on Tuesday, but the two-time NBA Finals MVP is focused on a bigger goal.
Durant scored 11 points in Team USA’s 122-87 quarterfinal win in Paris, surpassing Lisa Leslie’s all-time Olympic scoring record of 488 points, now holding 494 and counting.
After the game, Durant praised Leslie on social media, calling her the “gold standard” of basketball and emphasized his focus on winning gold.
“Records are meant to be broken. I’ll hold on to this until another great comes along … Lisa Leslie, you are the gold standard in basketball. Much love to you always … it’s all about the gold baby. Let’s get it fellas,” Durant wrote.
Leslie also congratulated Durant, expressing her honor at having him break her record and encouraging him to win another gold medal.
Durant aims to be the first player in men’s Olympic basketball history to win four gold medals. His record seems safe for now, with Diana Taurasi being the closest active player with 416 points.
Despite entering the Olympics with an injury, Durant’s stellar performance has dispelled any concerns.
