[Saba Sports News] Stephen Curry made a huge impact in his first-ever Summer Olympics, which could also be his last.
Curry played a crucial role in leading Team USA to a gold medal with stellar performances in the semifinals and final of the men’s basketball tournament in Paris. He sank eight three-pointers in the gold medal game on Sunday and nine in the semifinals against Serbia.
All 24 of Curry’s points in Team USA’s 98-87 win over France came from beyond the arc, including a clutch three-pointer that led to his signature celebration.
After the victory, Curry expressed “a lot of relief” and hinted that winning a gold medal might be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for him. “This might not come around again,” Curry said, via Tim Reynolds of The Associated Press. “It was very, very special.”
While Curry might have been referring to the difficulty of winning a gold medal, some interpreted his comments as a sign that he may not participate in the 2028 Olympics.
Although Curry will be 40 during the next Olympics, which will be held in Los Angeles, the proximity to his home fans might tempt him to play again. LeBron James, at 39, showed this year that older players can still make a significant impact for Team USA.
We likely already know LeBron’s thoughts on the 2028 Olympics, but Curry still has plenty of time to decide.
