[Saba Sports News] On his ‘7 PM in Brooklyn’ show, Carmelo Anthony reflected on his trip to Paris to watch Team USA play Serbia in the Olympic semifinals.
During the discussion, he mentioned Bogdan Bogdanovic mimicking his signature celebration, making it clear that he wasn’t offended and knew Bogdanovic was showing respect. Carmelo praised Bogdanovic’s game and expressed his struggle not to cheer for him in the moment.
“That’s my son right there! It was real-time, real stuff going on. While he’s playing, he makes a shot—’Oh, I like that Bogi, I see you.’ I’m talking that trash to him,” Anthony said.
“He was showing love. I really wanted to cheer. He knocked that three down, and I just had to accept it. That was probably one of the greatest games I’ve ever been to.”
Bogdanovic later explained that his gesture was a sign of admiration for Anthony, not disrespect. Bogdanovic, who scored 20 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists against Team USA, has long admired Melo and was paying homage with his celebration.
Though Serbia lost the semifinal, they secured the bronze medal by defeating Germany, receiving a hero’s welcome upon returning home.
