[Saba Sports News] Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant miraculously survived a severe car accident on December 30, 2022, which left him with significant injuries. The accident led to his car catching fire, and he was rescued by locals. Pant sustained serious injuries including a ligament tear in his right knee and multiple lacerations. After immediate hospitalization, Pant has undergone extensive rehabilitation and training, preparing for his return to cricket in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL).
Reflecting on the accident, Pant shared his near-death experience, revealing that doctors initially estimated a recovery period of 16-18 months. “I felt like it was the end for me. The wounds were visible, but I was fortunate it wasn’t worse. The doctor’s recovery time estimate was long, but I was determined to reduce it,” Pant commented in a Star Sports video.
Pant’s recovery process primarily took place at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) supporting his medical expenses and well-being. He is expected to play in the upcoming IPL and lead the Delhi Capitals in the 17th edition. Recently, he visited the Indian team in Bengaluru during their third T20I against Afghanistan.
However, Pant is still on his way to full fitness. He is likely to participate as an Impact player in the IPL, but won’t be keeping wickets due to his ongoing recovery.
