[Saba Sports News] NFL legend Tom Brady has spoken out about Jayson Tatum’s challenges during the Paris 2024 Olympics, commending Tatum’s professionalism and team-first approach during a difficult period. In an Instagram comment, Brady emphasized that Tatum deserves greater respect for the sacrifices he made to ensure Team USA’s success, which culminated in an undefeated run and a gold medal.
Brady wrote, “A true professional! A true champion! And a great teammate! We should celebrate those who prioritize team success over individual accolades. Many contribute to an organization’s success without being in the spotlight, and Jayson Tatum is a prime example. My respect for him has only grown! This is the lesson we should teach our kids!”
During the Olympics, Tatum averaged 5.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 1.0 steals, while receiving limited playing time and multiple DNPs. Despite being an All-NBA First Team player and NBA champion, Tatum was overshadowed by Celtics teammates Jrue Holiday and Derrick White, with only Tyrese Haliburton logging fewer minutes for Team USA.
The presence of LeBron James and Kevin Durant made forward minutes scarce, and Team USA’s use of double-big lineups further limited Tatum’s opportunities. Additionally, Tatum’s shooting struggles influenced Steve Kerr’s decisions.
Looking ahead, the 2024-25 NBA season could be a redemption arc for Tatum, even after a summer where he secured both an NBA title and a gold medal.
