[Saba Sports News] The Dallas Mavericks’ bid to defend their Western Conference title is already facing setbacks.
Shams Charania of The Athletic reported Friday that Mavs guard Dante Exum has suffered a serious right wrist injury, which might require surgery.
Exum, a right-handed shooter, is currently assessing his treatment options.
Exum, the former No. 5 overall pick, found new life with Dallas last season after being out of the league for a few years. He averaged 7.8 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game off the bench, shooting an impressive 49.1 percent from three.
Known for his strong perimeter defense, Exum played rotation minutes during Dallas’ Finals run.
With Derrick Jones Jr. and Josh Green gone, Exum was expected to take on a bigger role this season, especially following the arrivals of Klay Thompson and Naji Marshall.
Now, it seems he might miss significant time, compounding concerns as Luka Doncic also deals with an injury.
