[Saba Sports News] The NBA is no stranger to wild stories, but Chandler Parsons’ recent scam might be the most shocking of 2024.
The retired player fell victim to a scheme orchestrated by Georgia businessman Calvin Darden Jr., as reported by the Associated Press’ Larry Neumeister.
Prosecutors revealed that Darden, working with a sports agent, convinced Parsons to send $1 million, supposedly to help NBA player James Wiseman’s development.
Wiseman, drafted second overall by the Warriors in 2020, was no longer with the team by then.
Fans were stunned by the news, reacting with disbelief on social media.
Darden was convicted in his New York City trial and could face 11-14 years in prison, though he’s currently out on bail awaiting sentencing. Parsons wasn’t the only victim of the scam, however.
