[Saba Sports News] LeBron James may be the NBA’s oldest player, but there’s no doubt the all-time leading scorer remains a key factor for the Lakers’ playoff hopes and potential postseason success.
As he gears up for his 22nd season and fifth with the Lakers, James is coming off a busy offseason, including a gold medal win with Team USA at the Paris Olympics and seeing his son, Bronny, drafted by the Lakers.
While Bronny is expected to spend much of his rookie year in the G League, he could see some time with the Lakers.
Known for his unselfish play, LeBron recently emphasized the importance of team basketball in an interview with Lakers reporter Mike Trudell.
“I like when the ball is flowing, has energy, and everyone is in rhythm. When you’re moving and sharing the ball, that’s great offense,” said James. “We have too many threats to play selfishly. The best offense is when the ball is popping, touching the paint, creating opportunities and finding the best shot.”
The Lakers made a significant offseason move by hiring JJ Redick as head coach after parting ways with Darvin Ham.
Redick, previously in broadcasting, has no prior coaching experience.
Once again, the Lakers will rely heavily on LeBron and Anthony Davis. Last season, LeBron averaged 25.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 8.3 assists, while Davis had one of his best seasons, averaging 24.7 points and 12.6 rebounds, earning a spot on the NBA All-Defensive team and Second-Team All-Star.
Alongside Bronny, the Lakers drafted Dalton Knecht, a sharp-shooting guard from Tennessee who averaged 16.9 points and 5.2 rebounds.
Knecht will have the opportunity to showcase his offensive skills this season.
