[Saba Sports News] Kevin Durant recently reignited debates about his place among basketball greats like LeBron James and Michael Jordan. In a discussion with reporters, Durant asserted his inclusion in the greatest-of-all-time (GOAT) talks, later defending his stance on social media. When a fan suggested that certain criteria must be met to be considered the best, Durant replied on X, stating, “The part you’re missing is that there are no rules to the game.”
Durant has been actively defending his legacy, responding to critics who question his decisions, such as joining the Warriors in 2019, or compare his moves to those of LeBron James. He expressed his frustration in a tweet: “I can sit at any table at any time and talk basketball comfortably with anybody that has played the game.”
Durant’s efforts to fend off criticism come as he faces challenges in distancing himself from his championship wins with the Warriors. Some argue that without another title, doubts about his ability to lead a team independently persist.
Regarding his GOAT status, Durant’s achievements, including an MVP title, two championships, thirteen All-Star appearances, ten All-NBA selections, and four scoring titles, undoubtedly place him among the modern era’s best. However, matching the accolades of LeBron or Jordan, known for their dominant NBA runs, remains a lofty goal.
Durant’s statistics remain impressive, but at 35, his career is likely approaching its later stages. The Phoenix Suns, recognizing this, have been aggressively building a team to capitalize on Durant’s current abilities. Despite his efforts, the Suns need more support from their roster to be a strong contender in the West. The hope is that more team cohesion and better health will bolster their performance in Durant’s tenure.
