One popular figure is Ed Ducut. The substitute player would always be cheered by the crowd whenever he was called upon during a match by “living legend” Robert Jaworski, the then head coach of Barangay Ginebra. This was during the team’s heyday from the mid 1980s to early 1990s.
There was also Romulo Mamaril, who initially started his career with Crispa but quickly rose to prominence as a starting centre after joining Ginebra in the late 1980s. Both Doukut and Mamaril have won multiple titles with Ginebra.
Then there’s Raymond Aguilar, who fans love and cherish whether he plays or not. Aguilar has been involved in all seven titles the team have won since Tim Cone took over as Ginebra head coach. Although playing a smaller role in actual games, Aguilar’s contributions in training make him an important part of the team.
