[Saba Sports News] The first Test between India and England at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium is set to commence on January 25. Both teams have arrived and are actively preparing for the series opener.
During a practice session, the Indian team faced a moment of concern when middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer was struck on his right forearm by a ball. Initially struggling with the injury, Iyer briefly halted his practice but eventually resumed batting after receiving treatment, including ice packs, from the physiotherapists.
Iyer’s role in the team is crucial, particularly in Virat Kohli’s absence for the initial matches. This situation has led head coach Rahul Dravid to confirm that KL Rahul, previously a wicketkeeper-batsman in the South Africa series, will solely focus on batting. KS Bharat, who performed impressively against England Lions, is likely to step in as the wicketkeeper.
With Kohli out, there’s speculation about adjustments in the batting lineup, particularly regarding the no. 4 position. Rahul might be promoted in the order, followed by Iyer and Bharat.
On the England side, uncertainty surrounds captain Ben Stokes’ readiness for the match. Head coach Brendon McCullum acknowledged Stokes’ fitness progress but indicated that a decision on his participation in the opening game will be made closer to the start. This suggests a last-minute call on Stokes’ inclusion in the match at Uppal.
