[Saba Sports News] Jayson Tatum had some strong words following Sunday’s game against the Milwaukee Bucks, and it’s easy to see why.
The Celtics star rolled his ankle in the second half after Giannis Antetokounmpo stepped into his landing space on a three-point attempt from the corner.
Tatum came down on Giannis’s foot, twisting his left ankle in the process. Given the NBA’s emphasis on protecting shooters from defenders encroaching on their landing area, this should have been called a flagrant foul on Antetokounmpo, granting the Celtics free throws and possession.
However, there was no whistle, even with referee Natalie Sago right on the baseline.
Despite the missed call, the Celtics won 113-107, but Tatum voiced his frustration on social media afterward. He posted a video of the incident on X, writing, “Smfh 🤦 some calls you just not supposed to miss.”
Tatum played through the injury, logging 31 points, 12 rebounds, and six assists, but he had a point about the missed call on a dangerous play. While refs usually catch those landing space fouls, this one went surprisingly unnoticed, leaving Tatum visibly frustrated.
