[Saba Sports News] Quentin Grimes, a young talent of the New York Knicks, might soon join Immanuel Quickley and RJ Barrett in exiting the team. Stefan Bondy from the New York Daily News has reported that the Knicks are looking to trade Grimes before the February 8 deadline.
Grimes has reportedly been unhappy with his role in the team, a sentiment the Knicks are aware of. Bondy also speculates that Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau might have lost faith in Grimes following his absence due to a shoulder injury in the last two games of their first-round victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers in the postseason.
Grimes, 23, a former first-round pick, was once considered a non-negotiable asset in trade discussions by the Knicks. However, his performance has declined in the 2023-24 season, with an average of just 7.1 points per game and a career-low shooting percentage of 40.0%. After being benched by Thibodeau in early December, Grimes has openly expressed his dissatisfaction with the limited opportunities he’s been given.
Despite the challenges, Grimes has potential, evidenced by his 38.6% career three-point shooting and effective one-on-one defense. But with players like OG Anunoby, Donte DiVincenzo, and Josh Hart ahead of him in the lineup, a change of scene might be beneficial for Grimes, especially as he approaches restricted free agency in 2025. The Knicks could potentially use Grimes in a trade deal for a veteran player they have recently shown interest in.
