[Saba Sports News] The Cadillac team has been approved to enter F1 in 2026, making its driver lineup a hot topic. In an interview with AUTOSPORT, the team’s new director Mario Andretti revealed that IndyCar driver Colton Herta is the top choice for the team’s F1 driver seat. Andretti stated that since the establishment of the team’s F1 program, the management has been considering the possibility of Herta becoming an F1 driver. He has trained with McLaren alongside drivers like Lando Norris and performed excellently; moreover, he is young and energetic, ready to race at any time. Previously, Herta was linked with the AlphaTauri team but failed to become an F1 driver due to insufficient super license points. Over the past three seasons, Herta has accumulated 32 points, meaning he needs to finish at least fourth in the IndyCar standings next season to earn the points required for a super license. Some fans believe that Cadillac’s interest in Herta is due to two main reasons: his driving talent and his American nationality. As an American team, Cadillac needs a local driver to promote itself.
