[Saba Sports News] According to British media reports, West Ham United may extend the contract of their forward Michail Antonio, who was recently involved in a serious car accident. Last weekend, Antonio suffered severe injuries and has undergone surgery for a lower leg fracture, expected to keep him out for the remainder of the season. Before West Ham’s recent 2-1 victory over Wolves, Antonio wished his teammates good luck via video call. Reports indicate that Antonio’s contract expires at the end of this season, and West Ham is considering a renewal based on his recovery from surgery. Meanwhile, West Ham did not purchase relevant insurance, meaning they need to continue paying Antonio £90,000 per week. When Angelo Ogbonna suffered an ACL injury in November 2021, West Ham chose to extend his contract by a year as well. Prior to the match against Wolves, West Ham players warmed up in special Antonio No. 9 shirts, which the club plans to auction, each signed by the players including Antonio. Goalscorers Jarrod Bowen and Tomas Soucek also dedicated their goals to Antonio.
