[Saba Sports News] Boogie Cousins has weighed in on the latest drama involving his former team, the Sacramento Kings.
The Kings shocked the basketball world this week by firing head coach Mike Brown, the 2022-23 NBA Coach of the Year, who had led the team to consecutive winning seasons and a division title. The firing—and the way it was reportedly handled—sparked widespread criticism.
Former Kings star DeMarcus Cousins didn’t hold back, taking a shot at the organization in an Instagram comment:
“Mike ain’t the problem smh,” Cousins wrote.
Cousins, now 34, was the Kings’ franchise player from 2010-17, earning multiple All-Star and All-NBA nods during his tenure.
However, his time in Sacramento was marred by maturity issues and public feuds with several head coaches. Despite his history, Cousins’ comment underscores a larger issue within the organization.
Much of the dysfunction in Sacramento is believed to stem from owner Vivek Ranadive, who bought the team in 2013. Brown joins a long list of head coaches fired during Ranadive’s tenure, including Michael Malone—the one coach who seemed to have a strong relationship with Cousins.
Interestingly, Malone, now the head coach of the Denver Nuggets, also reacted to Brown’s firing, delivering his own scathing critique of the Kings.
