[Saba Sports News] Reports last October indicated that several players from the Malaysian national team requested a salary increase from the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), hoping to raise their annual salaries to 2 million ringgits. However, BAM President Datuk V. Subramaniam did not disclose the exact figures. On the eve of the 2025 Malaysia Open, BAM agreed to the players’ salary increase requests but stipulated that players and coaches must deliver satisfactory results in the 2025 season, particularly in achieving their key performance indicators (KPIs) to bring more honors to Malaysia. In an interview, Subramaniam stated that everyone must set clear goals for the future and understand their responsibilities. He also emphasized the importance of integrity, using the earlier betting scandal involving former national player Daren Liew and national sports institute analyst Jerry Gan as examples, urging players to be disciplined, work hard, and stay focused on their performance and growth without getting involved in negative matters.
