[Saba Sports News] Last month, Olympic and World Championship mixed doubles champion Zheng Siwei announced his retirement from international competition. Last week, he responded for the first time in an interview to the controversy surrounding his decision to withdraw from international events. Zheng Siwei revealed three reasons: first, he did not want to retire while his competitive state was declining; second, his child was just born, and his family needed him; third, he felt there was no need to endure the hardships of sports anymore since he had already achieved a Grand Slam and did not wish to pursue more accolades. Regarding his future after retirement, Zheng stated that his parents had always hoped he would enter the system and pursue a political career, but he rejected this idea. He prefers freedom and has a strong personality, making him uncomfortable with hierarchy and supervision. If he became his own boss, he could control his time and fully express his character. Zheng also talked about his idol, saying that currently, only Jay Chou represents a meaningful idol in his life. He described Jay Chou as having a positive worldview, being loyal to friends, remaining a top-tier star, and having a happy family with three children. Zheng believes that personal success does not equate to true success; it must be multidimensional, intertwining family, friends, and career.
