[Saba Sports News] On January 23, during the 32nd election for the president of the Korea Badminton Association held in Daejeon, two-time Olympic champion Kim Dong-moon received 64 votes out of 154 valid votes, defeating the incumbent president Kim Taek Soo, who garnered 43 votes. Kim Dong-moon, 49, is currently a professor in the Department of Sports Science at Yonsei University. In 1996, he won the first Olympic gold medal in mixed doubles in badminton, defeating the world’s top mixed doubles pair Park Joo Bong and Ra Kyung-min, becoming the youngest Olympic badminton men’s champion at just 20 years old. At the 2004 Athens Olympics, Kim Dong-moon and Ha Tae-kwon won gold in men’s doubles, making Kim a legend for winning gold in both Olympics. Kim married his former rival Ra Kyung-min on December 1, 2005, a story cherished in Korean badminton. In his campaign speech, Kim expressed his hope to promote the synchronized development of recreational and professional sports, pledging to establish a fund management headquarters, improve the treatment of leaders, develop recreational and school sports, and enhance the rights of national team athletes.
