[Saba Sports News] Conor McGregor made an unexpected appearance during Monday’s NBA game between the Milwaukee Bucks and Utah Jazz, creating a memorable sideline moment.
With about five minutes left in the second quarter at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, McGregor was spotted walking past the Bucks’ bench. However, before returning to his courtside seat, the former UFC champion made a sudden U-turn and approached Bucks center Brook Lopez.
The two briefly exchanged pleasantries before Lopez stood up, towering over McGregor in what resembled a pre-fight stare-down. At 7’1″, Lopez absolutely dwarfed the 5’8″ McGregor, with the size difference so stark that Lopez’s head went out of frame in video clips of the interaction.
Lopez later shared the story with reporters.
“[Conor McGregor] asked me how tall I was,” Lopez explained. “I told him, and he asked me to stand up. Once I did, I knew I had to size him up. I’ve seen the face-offs before, so I knew I had to do my part.”
Jokingly, Lopez added that if anything were to escalate, he would hire his teammate and fight enthusiast Damian Lillard as his promoter and trainer.
Though McGregor’s MMA resume speaks for itself, it’s tough to bet against Lopez in a hypothetical matchup. While Lopez admitted he has “nothing” in terms of fight experience, he and his twin brother Robin Lopez are notorious for their playful wrestling matches with NBA mascots.
