[Saba Sports News] The Sacramento Kings have reportedly set their sights on a specific player in trade discussions with the San Antonio Spurs involving De’Aaron Fox—but prying him away may not be easy.
According to The Athletic’s Sam Amick, the Kings “covet” Spurs rookie guard Stephon Castle as part of a potential Fox deal. However, league insiders are skeptical that San Antonio would be willing to include Castle in any trade, forcing Sacramento to explore other possible returns.
Fox is known to prefer San Antonio as a landing spot, and the Spurs have shown interest. With leverage on their side, the Spurs could opt to wait until the summer when Fox has just one year left on his contract, potentially reducing his trade value.
Other teams may also hesitate to pursue him if they believe he is set on joining San Antonio long-term.
For Sacramento, Castle would be an ideal return, as he could step in as their point guard of the future.
However, given that the 12-point-per-game rookie is already playing a key rotational role for the Spurs, there is little incentive for them to move him. While San Antonio has other assets, the Kings must decide if a deal without Castle is worth parting with their star guard.
