[Saba Sports News] No one on the Dallas Mavericks is untouchable after the Luka Doncic trade, but Kyrie Irving still appears to be in the team’s long-term plans.
Veteran NBA insider Marc Stein reported on Substack that Irving is “by all indications” expected to sign a new multi-year deal with Dallas this summer.
Irving, 32, is under contract for $41 million this season with a $44 million player option for next year. While he originally joined the Mavs via trade in 2023, he later signed a three-year extension.
However, two major factors in his decision to stay—Doncic and Mark Cuban—are no longer in place.
Financially, Dallas can offer Irving the most lucrative deal, and the presence of his former Team USA teammate Anthony Davis might help. But given Irving’s unpredictable history, the Mavericks could be in for a tense few months before he officially commits to a new contract.
