[Saba Sports News] Luka Doncic has been sidelined since Christmas Day with a calf injury, leaving fans wondering when he’ll suit up for the Los Angeles Lakers. The wait might soon be over.
On NBA Today, ESPN’s Marc J. Spears reported that Doncic was at the Lakers’ facility on Monday undergoing a physical as part of the blockbuster trade. According to Spears, Doncic is targeting a return next week—either Monday at home against the Utah Jazz or Wednesday on the road in Utah.
“I’m hearing he’s targeting next week,” Spears said. “The Lakers play at home against Utah next Monday and on the road in Utah next Wednesday, a potential return from his calf injury.”
Spears also noted that Doncic initially felt “disappointment and anger” upon arriving in L.A. but quickly warmed up to the idea of playing for a historic franchise. He even had dinner with Lakers head coach JJ Redick, his former teammate in Dallas.
Doncic played just 22 games for the Mavericks this season before his injury. He is averaging 28.1 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 7.8 assists per game. While all signs indicate he didn’t want to be traded, Doncic now has the chance to team up with LeBron James and potentially take over as the next face of the Lakers once LeBron eventually moves on.
