[Saba Sports News] A former No. 2 overall NBA draft pick found himself in trouble at the airport this weekend.
Tim Everson of The Manhattan Mercury reported that ex-NBA forward Michael Beasley was arrested Sunday morning at Manhattan Regional Airport in Kansas. Beasley was allegedly caught with just under six grams of marijuana while attempting to board a plane.
According to Everson, Beasley was booked on a marijuana possession charge and later released on a $750 bond.
Now 36, Beasley was a standout in college, earning All-American honors during his lone season at Kansas State before being selected No. 2 overall by the Miami Heat in the 2008 NBA Draft—picked ahead of players like Russell Westbrook, Kevin Love, and Brook Lopez.
Though known for his scoring ability, Beasley never fully lived up to expectations in the NBA. He lasted just two seasons in Miami before being traded and went on to play for the Minnesota Timberwolves, Phoenix Suns, Houston Rockets, Milwaukee Bucks, New York Knicks, and Los Angeles Lakers.
Despite struggling to find consistent success in the NBA, Beasley found a second act overseas, playing four seasons in China, earning multiple CBA All-Star selections, and winning a CBA championship with the Guangdong Southern Tigers in 2019.
However, he hasn’t played professionally since 2022 with the Shanghai Sharks.
This isn’t Beasley’s first run-in with marijuana-related issues. He was arrested multiple times for possession in the early 2010s and later faced an NBA suspension for a drug violation.
