The Athletic’s Josh Robbins, revealed that Rollins is accused of shoplifting seven times between September 9 and November 9, while still with the Wizards. The 21-year-old faces charges for the theft of items like groceries, body wash, and candles.
Wizards president Michael Winger stated that the team only recently became aware of the charges against Rollins but declined to confirm if his release was directly due to these allegations. Winger emphasized the team’s commitment to being responsible community members and representatives of their fans.
Rollins joined the Wizards in a trade involving Jordan Poole and Chris Paul going to the Warriors. During the 2023 Summer League, Rollins displayed promise, averaging notable stats in his appearances and was in the second year of a cost-effective three-year contract.
The Wizards, who are in the midst of rebuilding, found the decision to part ways with Rollins midseason unexpected, raising questions beyond basketball performance. Rollins had averaged 4.1 points, 1.1 rebounds, and 1.1 assists over 10 games this season but had limited playtime in recent games.
