[Saba Sports News] Following the Los Angeles Clippers’ significant contract extension with star forward Kawhi Leonard, attention now turns to Paul George, with indications that he could be next in line for a new deal with the team.
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported on George’s situation amidst the Leonard contract news. George has the option to become a free agent this offseason, with a $48.8 million player option for the 2024-25 season. Wojnarowski notes that extension discussions are also underway between George and the Clippers, aiming to secure long-term agreements with both star players.
This strategy aligns with the Clippers’ goals, particularly as they prepare to transition to their new arena, the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California, next season. Securing both Leonard and George would not only boost ticket sales but also provide the team with a solid foundation, potentially influencing James Harden to commit as well (though Harden cannot officially sign a new contract until summer).
George, an eight-time NBA All-Star, continues to perform well this season, averaging 23.2 points per game with 40.9 percent accuracy from three-point range. Despite past injuries, he has generally maintained better health than Leonard. As a Southern California native, George has previously expressed interest in a long-term stay with the Clippers, and Leonard’s extension could further solidify this possibility.
