[Saba Sports News] After losing to Auxerre in a French Ligue 1 match, Marseille president was very upset and believed the match was unfair. He even questioned referee integrity, calling it all bias. This statement shocked the French Referees Union, who stated they will pursue this matter and issue a statement in response to Marseille President’s “corruption” accusations, deciding to initiate legal proceedings to protect the reputation of referees. The French Referees Union emphasized in their statement that losing should not be an excuse to question the integrity of referees; accusing organized corruption is not only defamation against professional referees but also shows ignorance of refereeing work. The author believes that concluding that there is corruption in refereeing decisions and openly accusing is perhaps too impulsive and biased. In football matches, referees’ decisions are often influenced by various factors including the pace of the game, player behavior, and on-site situations, so the decision results may not always meet the expectations of teams and fans. However, this does not mean that referees are engaged in corrupt activities.
