[Saba Sports News] Jimmy Butler has been thriving since his departure from Miami, but Miami isn’t quite done with him yet.
David Dwork of WPLG in Miami reported Friday that the Golden State Warriors star is facing a costly lawsuit from Five Star Marketing and Promotions, a luxury rental home company in South Florida. The lawsuit, filed Wednesday, alleges that Butler overstayed his lease at a Miami Beach rental property by two months past its expiration in August 2024—without permission.
As a result, Five Star claims Butler owes $260,000 in unpaid rent, calculated at $130,000 per month. Additionally, the company accuses Butler of leaving the property in disrepair, racking up over $125,000 in damages. The alleged damages include mold issues, an unmaintained pool, damaged drywall and flooring, and a malfunctioning HVAC system. On top of that, Five Star asserts that Butler changed the locks and denied the property owner access for inspections during his stay.
In total, the company is suing Butler for $257,282, which accounts for the alleged damages and unpaid rent, minus his $130,000 security deposit. You can read the full lawsuit details here.
Butler, a six-time NBA All-Star, played for the Miami Heat from 2019 until his trade to the Warriors earlier this month. His exit from Miami was already messy, but this lawsuit suggests his troubles with the city started well before his trade.
Since joining Golden State, Butler has been averaging 16.4 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 5.6 assists per game, helping the Warriors to an impressive 7-1 record. He recently made headlines for joking about still needing a place to live in the Bay Area—but it turns out he may have left a bigger mess behind in Miami.
