[Saba Sports News] Steph Curry has no plans to slow down anytime soon and is eyeing an extended career beyond his current contract.
In a recent interview with 95.7 The Game, Curry dismissed any notion of retiring soon, expressing his desire to keep playing well past the expiration of his current deal, which runs through the 2026-27 season.
“I know my contract is lined up, and I’d like to outplay that, for sure,” Curry said.
“I’ve tried to answer that question before and said different things depending on how I feel that day. But it all comes down to whether I can still play at the level I expect from myself.”
Curry, who turns 37 this week, emphasized that his longevity isn’t about stats but about maintaining his ability to dominate games. “It’s not attached to points per game or a stats thing,” he added. “It’s ‘Can I dominate a game? Can I play my style for 30 minutes a game?’ You reevaluate that every year.”
Despite his age, Curry continues to deliver elite performances, averaging 24.5 points and 6.1 assists per game on impressive 45/40/94 shooting splits this season. The Warriors’ recent acquisition of Jimmy Butler has also revitalized the team, helping Golden State climb to a top-six seed in the Western Conference with a 12-2 record since Butler’s arrival.
Butler’s defense, leadership, and complementary scoring have eased some of the burden on Curry, giving the Warriors renewed championship aspirations.
However, by the time his contract expires, Curry will be 39, and while his perimeter-oriented game should age well, his effectiveness relies heavily on movement and elusiveness—factors that could diminish over time. Notably, his contract timeline aligns with Butler’s, who is 35, adding intrigue to Golden State’s long-term outlook.
Though Curry recently made headlines with an off-court venture that sparked retirement speculation, he remains focused on extending his playing career. With the Warriors looking like contenders again, the 11-time All-Star seems invigorated and ready for more seasons at the top.
