[Saba Sports News] The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 is expected to start on March 22, as reported by ANI.
The tournament will be held in India despite the Lok Sabha elections also taking place around the same time in the country.
During the general elections in 2009 and 2014, IPL was shifted to South Africa and the UAE respectively. However, in 2019 when the last Lok Sabha elections happened, the competition took place in India only.
“There is nothing like that, to shift the tournament outside the country, as the general election will also be at the same time. If any state doesn’t want to host the match at that time, with any justified reason, the match could be shifted to another venue,” a BCCI source said as quoted to ANI.
All the franchises have already finalised their squads in the recently-held auction. Australia’s Mitchell Starc became the most expensive IPL buy eyer as Kolkata Knight Riders acquired the services of the pacer for INR 24.75 crore.
Chennai Super Kings, led by MS Dhoni, will enter IPL 2024 as the defending champions.
