Ventforet Kofu lost 1-2 at home to JEF United Chiba last weekend in the league, marking their fifth consecutive match without a win, during which they suffered four losses and are in a very poor state. In the last game, Kofu attempted to change their formation to 4-4-2, aiming to create more attacking opportunities with two forwards. Kofu’s attacks are primarily generated from wing crosses and set pieces, but unfortunately, their attacking efficiency has been somewhat lacking, especially when facing stronger opponents; their ability to break down defenses still needs improvement. It’s worth mentioning that Kofu has always placed great importance on cup competitions. In last season’s J.League Cup, they reached the quarter-finals but were ultimately eliminated by Kawasaki Frontale with an aggregate score of 1-2, failing to advance further. Additionally, Kofu is quite good at leveraging their home advantage to secure points, having achieved a solid record of two wins, one draw, and one loss in their last four home games.
Fujieda MYFC drew 1-1 away against Oita Trinita last weekend in the league, maintaining an unbeaten streak of two wins and three draws in their last five matches, showing a decent form. Fujieda MYFC plays with a 3-4-2-1 formation, primarily focusing on high pressing. Their wing-backs sprint an average of 82 times per match, and the team can force their opponents into offside positions an average of 4.2 times per game. There are several highlights in both their attacking and defensive play. However, Fujieda MYFC has shown a rather indifferent attitude towards the J.League Cup. In last season’s J.League Cup, they were eliminated in the first round by the J3 team FC Ryukyu. Moreover, Fujieda MYFC is typical weak on the road, as they have only managed three draws and four losses in their seven away matches this season, showing a very weak performance.
Although Fujieda MYFC’s performance in the new season far exceeds that of Kofu, the latter holds the upper hand in their head-to-head history. In their last five encounters, Kofu has achieved three wins, one draw, and one loss against Fujieda. Considering Kofu’s reliance on home matches for points and their greater emphasis on cup competitions, it would be reasonable to expect Kofu to break their losing streak in this cup match.
