[Saba Sports News] According to British media reports, due to disagreements between the UK government and Roman Abramovich regarding the destination of the funds, the £2.3 billion from the sale of Chelsea, which has been frozen for nearly three years, may not be available in time to assist Ukraine. Recently, the UK government acknowledged in a statement that the disagreement with Abramovich is a “complex legal issue,” raising questions about how to handle the funds if Abramovich refuses to compromise or if Ukraine reaches a peace agreement with Russia and sanctions are lifted. Former sports minister Richard Caborn has written to UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, requesting intervention in the matter. The Labour government maintains the previous administration’s position, allowing the funds only for humanitarian projects within Ukraine, while Abramovich insists that the money should also be used for war victims outside of Ukraine. Some have suggested that the UK government take legal action against Abramovich, but this would mean that the issue could drag on for many more years. It remains uncertain how Chelsea fans view this situation.
